Boy Scouts - Scouts BSA (Formerly Boy Scouts America)

Scouts BSA is part of the Boy Scouts of America for both Boys and Girls ages 11-17.   

Scouts BSA provides the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training, which helps young people be “Prepared For Life.”  The Scouting organization is composed of approximately 2.2 million youth members between the ages of 5 and 21 and approximately 800,000 volunteers in local councils throughout the United States and its territories.

Scouting teaches youth to confront any challenge with whole hearts and clear minds—to live their lives without regret, never back down, and do their very best!

Chinese American Association of North Hempstead (CAANH)

CAANH is a non-profit organization and is committed to the cultivation of good will and the promotion of a better understanding of the Chinese culture and traditions in our communities.  In order to achieve this goal, we sponsor many educational an community events in which local residents are encouraged to participate.

Cub Scouts

Cub Scouting is part of the Boy Scouts of America for both Boys and Girls grades K-5.

We encourage boys and girls to make friends, be helpful to others, and do their very best no matter the outcome. With the help of powerful learning projects and exciting outdoor activities, we aim to teach children that doing their best can be a fun and rewarding experience—no matter the difficulty of the challenge.

Herricks Chinese Community

HCA is a non-profit organization devoted to being a voice for the Chinese community in Herricks. The mission of HCA is to educate and promote Chinese culture and awareness and to provide support to our school district and Chinese community, helping to bridge the two.  Each year, HCA organizes the Herricks Lunar New Year Celebration with over 1,000 people in attendance, free to the community. HCA supports Herricks school events and hosts monthly programs to keep the Chinese community informed and engaged. HCA works cooperatively with the school district at all levels for the benefit of our students and community.

Herricks Youth Council

Herricks Youth Council is a community organization comprised of youth, parents, school district personnel, representatives of local community agencies, and law enforcement. Herricks Youth Council is dedicated to the prevention of violence and substance abuse within the Herricks community. It is designed to bring adults and youths together in an organized environment to fulfill the different interests of our diverse student population. Youth Council gets the students involved in recreational, community service and excursion activities. Youth Council would like to thank our various sources of funding, Grants from Federal, State, Town, The Herricks Community Fund, and The Herricks School District, who all aide in making theses programs possible.

The Middle School Youth Council Recreation program is run by Tara Krinsky, a Herricks Health and Physical Education teacher, and a trained staff of certified teachers, college students and Herricks High School Juniors and Seniors. The Friday Night program for 6th, 7th and 8th graders operates in the Middle School from 7 - 9pm. Middle School students are required to sign a contract. A $10.00 admission fee is required each Friday night, and includes pizza, drinks and snacks along with the other activities. Non-Herricks students are welcome with a Library card, parental permission and the $10.00 fee.

This program provides students with a safe, drug and violence free environment using various recreational activities such as arts and crafts, sports activities, acting, dance, DJ, music, movies, video and board games, and community service activities. There has been exceptional student involvement and the program has been run successfully for many years now.

Senior Community Service Center

We are a resource that keeps seniors connected to their peers and communities while improving quality of life. The program is open to Nassau County senior residents 60 and older. We are open Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9:00-3:00 and are non-denominational. We provide opportunities to nourish seniors body, mind and spirit through socialization before, during and after lunch as well as opportunities to participate in a variety of programs. Advanced registration is required and a hot lunch is served for a suggested donation of $3.00. A variety of classes are offered such as Line Dancing, Stretch & Flex, Aerobic exercise, Arthritis exercise, Yoga, Tai Chi and Pickleball. Creative classes include Mindful coloring, Ceramics and Painting. All classes are a $1.00 suggested donation.

Transportation is available from Albertson, East Williston, Williston Park, Garden City Park, Mineola, New Hyde Park and Searingtown. The suggested roundtrip donation is $2.00.

This program is made possible through funding from the Nassau County Department of Human Services, Office for the Aging through the New York State Office for the Aging, the U.S.

Administration on Aging, the Town of North Hempstead and Herricks Community Fund.

The Herricks Parent Education and Community Awareness Committee (PECA) 

is comprised of PTA Council, Herricks Youth Council and Herricks School Administrators.  PECA members include parents, school officials, and other concerned residents and leaders in the Herricks School community.

Our purpose is to help parents as they try to raise their children in the midst of today’s significant challenges. We hope to provide useful information, educational programs and material as well as raise the awareness of the Herricks community about the numerous issues that parents and children face in today’s rapidly-changing society.  

We will employ a variety of strategies to meet our objectives: listserv communication; interesting and informative workshops; public service announcements as well as an updated website that will give the community access to important resource material to help them address a wide variety of issues. All of this is vital to foster healthy and safe children in a society where new and dangerous trends seem to be popping up all the time.

PECA is committed to a model where the entire community-at-large participates. That’s why we invite all areas of our Herricks community to get involved.
